Cattle Feed

One of the thrust areas under agriculture and allied activities is development of animal husbandry and dairy. Livestock is the largest productive resource in rural India, providing livelihood to two-third of the country. India is world’s highest livestock owner with 512.5 million animals taking first place in buffalo farming and second in goat and sheep farming. It is also world’s largest producer and consumer of milk, with rapidly growing demand. Animal husbandry and allied sectors provide employment to about 8.8 % of the population in India. Livestock sector contribute 4.11% of GDP and 25.6% of total Agriculture GDP.

The global demand for livestock products is expected to increase by over 60 percent by 2050, thus putting tremendous pressure to produce safe, nutritious feed at affordable prices for profitable and sustainable farming. Providing animals with adequate, balanced diets, free of toxins and contaminants is essential for enhancing their productivity and welfare. Feeding has a direct impact on the growth rate, production capacity and health status of the animal.

Compound cattle feed is a mixture of various concentrate feed ingredients in suitable proportion. Commonly used ingredients in compound cattle feed include grains, brans, protein meals/cakes, chunnies, agro-industrial by-products, minerals and vitamins. Compound cattle feed is an economical source of concentrate supplements and it could be in the form of mash, pellets, crumbles, cubes, etc. Compound cattle feed is palatable and good source of nutrients for growing, adult, dry, milk producing and pregnant animals. Profitability can be increased through regular use of compound cattle feed in prescribed quantity along with basal diet.

Feed Formulations:

Low quality forage forms base diet for cattle along with locally available supplements for optimum growth and milk production ignoring the nutrient needs of the animal. More than often such diets are unable to meet the nutrient requirements of the animal affecting its performance.  A balanced mixture of concentrated ingredients judiciously selected for their nutritive value, vary in composition in accordance with the animal type, age, season and region is called compound cattle feed. We at Springpool manufacture and distribute products fortified with proteins, enzymes, minerals and vitamins in adequate quantity and proportion to meet the nutritional requirements of cattle.
